Chest Pain

Chest pain when lying on the left side.

Chest pain when lying down can occur due to several risk factors, representing an extensive range of medical conditions. Chest pain is mainly linked with cardiovascular diseases but in few cases. However, an individual is advised to visit the healthcare adviser when the pain exceeds and leads to shortness of breath or when the pain is unexplained.

The likely causes of chest pain when lying on the left side are:

  • CAD coronary artery disease
  • CAD coronary artery disease, also referred to as coronary heart disease, develops in an individual when the coronary artery, which supplies oxygen and blood to the heart, becomes too thin or there is cholesterol blockage in its walls.
  • Heart inflammation
  • Heart inflammation can lead to severe health issues and an abnormal heartbeat, also known as arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. Most reasons for heart inflammation include bacterial infections or viral infections like autoimmune disease.
  • Heart attack.
  • A heart attack occurs when proper blood supply is lost to some parts of the heart muscles. A heart attack is a result of a clogged artery. Any individual who encounters a heart attack is likely to experience chest pain and other possible indications associated with a heart attack.
  • Angina.
  • Angina is an indication of coronary artery disease CAD and coronary microvascular disease MVD. It is referred to as discomfort or chest pain that happens when there is an insufficient supply of oxygen-rich blood to the heart.
  • Pericarditis.
  • It is a type of tissue inflammation that surrounds an individual’s heart. Its pain can be sudden and severe when someone lies down or breathes.
